Baseball Falters in Game Two Loss at No. 21 Louisiana Tech

Marshall scored six runs on 11 hits
RUSTON, La. – Marshall baseball (22-16, 9-8 C-USA) were defeated 19-6 in game two of the series at No. 21 Louisiana Tech on Friday.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the second. Marshall cut to the deficit to three, 5-2, with RBI-groundouts by Erik Rodriguez and Luke Edwards.
LA Tech quickly answered with four more runs in the bottom of the third to extend its lead to 9-2.
The Herd began to slowly chip away at the deficit beginning with a RBI-single by Zach Inskeep to score Edwards in the top of the fifth, while Andrew Zban singled home Raul Cabrera and Elvis Peralta, Jr., singled home Zban in the top sixth as Marshall trailed 9-5 after the half inning.
However, the Bulldogs scored two runs without recording a hit in the bottom of the sixth to kick the lead back out to 11-5.
Reynaldo Pastrana hit his sixth homer of the season in the top of the seventh to make it an 11-6 ballgame.
Louisiana Tech extended its lead to 10 runs, 16-6, with a bases-loaded walk and a Tanner Huddleston grand slam in the bottom of the seventh.
Hunter Wells added to the Tech lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth making it 17-6. The Bulldogs added two more runs to push its lead to 19-6.
NOTES
- Freshman Brady Choban retired two of the three batters he faced in his first appearance since Mar. 10th.
- Luke Edwards went three-for-five with a run scored and a RBI. This was his second three-hit game of the season.
- Tucker Linder's hit streak came to an end on a zero-for-four night at the plate.
- Chris Fryer went two innings of work giving up no runs or hits out of the bullpen.
UP NEXT
Marshall will look to rebound and take the series in game three of the series on Saturday morning from Louisiana Tech at 11 am EST/10 am CST.
