Baseball Prepares for Wednesday Contest Against Western Carolina

The Herd is receiving votes in latest NCBWA poll.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall baseball (17-10, 6-3 C-USA) hosts Western Carolina (12-12, 2-4 SoCon) for a mid-week contest on Wednesday at the Kennedy Center. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Thundering Herd won the only meeting last season, 12-8, in Cullowhee, NC and have won two of the last four matchups, dating back to 2017.
The Catamounts lead the all-time series, 37-17.
ON THE MOUND
RHP Ryan Capuano (1-0, 6.93 ERA) vs. RHP Ryan Mitschele (0-1, 4.76 ERA)
HERD IN THE RANKINGS
Marshall received votes in the April 2 National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America poll. It is the first time the Herd has received votes in a national poll since the final week of the 2016 regular season.
Redshirt senior Tucker Linder is on a team-high 12-game hitting streak. Linder also leads the team with 25 RBI and 36 hits this season. The Tallmadge, Ohio native ranks fifth in Conference USA in doubles this year.
Linder, redshirt junior Elvis Peralta Jr. and sophomore Geordon Blanton each have nine doubles, while senior Erik Rodriguez has a team-high four triples.
Junior Zach Inskeep has five home runs and 23 RBI this season. Inskeep's five homers this year ranks fifth in C-USA this year.
The Herd's .296 team batting average is 28th best in the country. Marshall is tied with Florida Atlantic for first in C-USA in batting average this year.
Freshman Ryan Capuano earned his first victory last week in the team's win over Ohio. Capuano tossed 5.0 innings against the Bobcats, allowing one earned run on three hits, while striking out three.
LAST TIME
The Thundering Herd took two out of three games from Middle Tennessee this past weekend. It is the first time since joining C-USA in 2005 that Marshall has won three-straight series to open league play.
The Herd currently sits in fourth place in the conference standings.
UP NEXT
Following Wednesday's meeting with Western Carolina, Marshall will hit the road for a three-game series with defending conference champions Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles swept the season series with the Herd last year.
The series opens Friday evening, with first pitch set for 7 p.m. eastern time.
