Marshall Navigates Rainy First Day at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Amid a day fraught with weather concerns, the Thundering Herd concluded the first leg at the Virginia Challenge.

Marshall competed in four different field events: triple jump, pole vault, hammer and javelin.

In hammer, Reneese Batson's top throw was good for fifth place (57.94 meters). Hasana Clark also finished ninth in the event and recorded a new outdoor personal best (55.27 meters).

Heidi Heiniger finished 12th in javelin (40.92 meters), Denisha West finished 13th in triple jump (11.68) and Lauren Zaglifa tied for 13th in pole vault (3.57).

The Herd's two track events of the day, the 100-meter dash and 400-meter dash, saw Kayla Haywood finish 11th (12.08) and Brandy Elysee finish eighth (56.65), respectively.

Sarah Bever and Torie Derrow will be in charge of getting Marshall going on Saturday, when they compete in the high jump at 12:30 p.m.

Programming Note: Due to inclement weather, all events scheduled for Friday evening were postponed. As such, Marshall's 4x100 meter relay team will now compete at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday.
