Linder Extends Hitting Streak to 17 Games in Loss at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Marshall baseball (18-14, 6-6 C-USA) couldn't find the clutch hit in a 7-0 loss to Virginia Tech Tuesday night in Blacksburg.

Marshall had back-to-back two-out singles by Zach Inskeep and Tucker Linder, but the two-out magic ended with the next batter as the runners were left at first and second. The hit extended Tucker Linder's hitting streak to 17 games.

The Hokies struck first in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly, before Nick Biddison hit a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the second to put VT up 5-0.

Sam Boone, Hunter Sexton, Bryan Callaly and Garett Priestley combined for 5.1 scoreless- and hitless-innings of relief between the third and one out into the eighth inning.

Michael Guerrero came into the game for Priestley for the final two outs of the eighth. VT scored two runs in the eighth to push its lead to 7-0.

Inskeep had two hits in three at-bats and reached base a third time on a hit by pitch. Erik Rodriguez also had two hits in the contest.

UP NEXT
Marshall will continue Conference USA action with a three-game series beginning on Friday against Western Kentucky at the Kennedy Center.
