Marshall Qualifies Three for NCAA East Preliminary Championship Finals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Marshall's track and field season rolls on as three student-athletes will compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Championship Finals, beginning Thursday at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.

Two Herd athletes, Safiyyah Mitchell and Ashonti Warner, received automatic bids to the competition. Both finished with top-48 NCAA East division times in their respective events.

Mitchell ran a 13.45 time in the 100-meter hurdles at the Adidas Winthrop Invitational. The time is ranked as the 34th-fastest. Warner clocked a school record-setting 59.58 in the 400-meter hurdles of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. The time is the 38th-fastest in the East division.

Christianna Dogan, just outside the top 48 of her event, also gained qualification. Dogan's 1:00.04 time in the 400-meter hurdles of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships is ranked 53rd in the East division.

Warner and Dogan will run Thursday, while Mitchell will race Friday.

Top competitors at the East Preliminary will qualify for the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships, which is set to begin June 5 in Austin, Texas.
