HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's soccer is set to host Youngstown State Friday at 7 p.m. and Ohio at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Hoops Family Field for home-opening weekend.

"I think I speak for everyone when I say we're happy to be back playing in Huntington," head coach Kevin Long said about the upcoming pair of home matches. "Based on the weekend we just had, I think we're eager to show that we're better than 10 goals against in two games. The red card on Thursday night hurt us on Sunday. The team came out fighting, but we didn't solve enough problems early in the match against Michigan State. Against Youngstown State and Ohio, we are eager to see if we can draw even on the season."

LAST TIME OUT
The Herd suffered a pair of losses during the opening weekend of the season in Michigan. Marshall opened the season in Ann Arbor against the Michigan Wolverines last Thursday (Aug. 22). MU fell 5-0 and lost Mary Lawman to a red card during the contest causing her to miss the next match at Michigan State.

Marshall then fell to Michigan State, 5-1, on Sunday (Aug. 25). The Spartans benefitted from four first-half goals by Wahlberg. Rene Ross got the Herd on the board with a goal off a rebound from a penalty kick in the second half, but MSU added a late goal within the final five minutes.

SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE
The Penguins split a pair of opening weekend matches defeating Purdue Fort Wayne 2-1 on Friday and falling to St. Bonaventure 3-1 on Sunday. Both contests were played at Farmers National Bank Field in Youngstown.

Addie Roman scored for YSU against Fort Wayne at 1:01 mark before the Mastodons tied up the match in the first half. Marcella Sizer then put the Penguins up for good at the 50:15 mark for the 2-1 win.

Youngstown State didn't fare as well against the Bonnies as St. Bonaventure held a 3-0 lead until Sizer scored in the 83rd minute.

The Penguins were tabbed to finish ninth in the Horizon League.

SCOUTING OHIO
The Bobcats pulled out a pair of one goal victories last weekend, defeating Eastern Kentucky 2-1 in overtime at Chessa Field on Aug. 22 and going on the road to defeat Northern Kentucky 1-0 on Aug. 25.

All the scoring against the Colonels came in the second half. Sydney Leckie scored the Bobcats first goal in the 54th minute, while Abby Townsend scored the game winner just over four minutes into overtime. Alivia Milesky assisted on both goals.

Milesky scored the lone goal at NKU, assisted by Townsend at the 61:28 mark.

Ohio was picked to finish fifth in the MAC Preseason Poll as voted on by the coaches within the conference.
