Women’s Soccer Travels to Florida for Pair of Contests

Marshall opens conference play Thursday at FAU
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's soccer (2-5-0) opens C-USA action on Thursday (Sept. 19) at Florida Atlantic at 7:00 p.m. and closes the weekend at Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday (Sept. 22) with a 1:00 p.m. first kick.

LAST TIME OUT
The Herd picked up a win on Sunday, Sept. 15, 3-1 over the High Point Panthers. Molly Preston put Marshall on the board first with a goal from inside the box assisted by Rene Ross. Mary Lawman then headed home a corner service from Ross to put the Herd up 2-0. After HPU buried a penalty kick, Lawman headed home her second goal of the game off a header from Metztli Gonzalez.
Lindsay Langley made nine saves in the match, including six in the second half and two in the final three minutes of play. Her performance earned her Conference USA Women's Goalkeeper of the Week.
SCOUTING FLORIDA ATLANTIC
The Owls are 5-2-0 this season. FAU's two losses came in overtime to Florida 3-2 on Aug. 23 and at then ranked-No. 18 Kansas by a 1-0 score.
Florida Atlantic is on a three-game winning streak having defeated Dartmouth, North Florida and Ball State by a combined score of 4-1. All three of those contests were at home in Boca Raton, Fla.
Mary O'Hara is the leading goal scorer for the Owls with five in seven games. Sammy Vitols, Pernile Velta and Miracle Porter have each found the back of the net three times.
Elisha Holmes has recorded a team-high three assists.
Cassidy Wasdin has started all seven contest in goal recording two shutouts. She has 1.01 goals against average for the season.
SCOUTING FLORIDA GULF COAST
The Eagles have a record of 3-3-0 this season with what would have been a seventh match against Auburn being a no contest due to weather. Five of the six games with results were shutouts by either FGCU or its opponent, with the Eagles having won all three of its matches by a 2-0 shutout.
Marjorie Boilesen leads the squad with four goals while no other player has more than one. Louise Lillback has a team-high two assists.
Melissa Weck has been the goalkeeper of record in all six matches making 21 saves, with a 1.27 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
