The fall ball game will be played at Appalachian Power Park
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall baseball travels to Charleston, W.Va., to play the West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park for its first game of the fall. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Â
"I think it's a good time to evaluate our team," Marshall head coach Jeff Waggoner said about the opportunity to play the games this fall. "We just started practice a week ago. We need to use these games to identify what we need to do better in our fall practices to get better as a team for the spring. We're going move a lot of guys around and put them into different situations. For pitchers, it's hard to have a set rotation, but fall ball is about getting better as a team and we'll use the games and practices to develop our guys."
Â
The matchup will be the first of two games against the Mountaineers this fall with next matchup coming on Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in Morgantown, W.Va.
Â
Last season Marshall finished with a 29-28 record ending the season with an appearance at the 2019 Conference USA Championship in Biloxi, Miss. MU earned a 6-4 victory over third-seeded Louisiana Tech in the opening game of the tournament.
Â
The Herd didn't lose a series at home during the 2019 campaign putting up a 17-7 record at the Kennedy Center and dropping just four home C-USA games, including a series sweep of Rice in the final three games of the regular season.
Â
Marshall also had Joshua Shapiro and Elvis Peralta, Jr., taken in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and Oakland A's, respectively. Peralta was named first-team all-conference, while Shapiro was on the second-team.
