NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Marshall women's soccer (1-4-0) falls by a 2-0 score to the Lipscomb Bisons on Thursday at the Music City Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt.
"We battled and in many ways played a much better game than our last outing," head coach Kevin Long said after the loss. "We saw some great performances by a handful of players and are starting to see our younger players making more of a positive impact. We are moving on to Sunday where we will be tested again, but hope that we are able to solve some of the ways we were exposed today."
The Bisons came out firing with the first six shots, including two on goal, but Lindsay Langley stepped up to make both saves. Metztli Gonzalez recorded the first for Marshall in the 13th minute, but it was off target.
Langley made one more save in the half, before leaving the game at the 41:38 mark for Courtney McVicker to see action in the contest.
Marshall kept the score 0-0 at halftime despite being outshot 14-2 in the half by Lipscomb. Gonzalez had both shots for MU with both being off target.
Like the first half, the Bisons had the first three shots of the second with the third finding the back off the goal by Molly Grant in the 57th minute.
Shortly after the goal, Julia Schukle and Gonzalez each recorded shots with both going wide of the net.
McVicker went on to make saves on the next two Lipscomb shots and Molly Preston put up the Herd's first shot on target at 75:48. However, it was saved by the Bisons' keeper.
In the 82nd minute, Grant tallied her second goal of the match to put Lipscomb up 2-0. Mary Lawman then put a shot on target for Marshall, but it was saved with under five minutes to go.
Farah Abu-Tayeh picked up a yellow card in the final two minutes of play as the Bisons picked up the victory.
MU was outshot 20-8. Lipscomb also had more corners 5-4.
Marshall will play its final game in Nashville on Sunday against No. 9 Vanderbilt at 3:30 p.m. EST/2:30 p.m. CST.
