Thundering Herd competes at 4 p.m. Friday
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall cross country competes Friday at the Blue Ridge Open. The meet takes place in Boone, North Carolina at the Don Kennedy Trails at State Farm, hosted by Appalachian State.
The women's race will be a 5K race and is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The men's 8K race follows at approximately 4:30 p.m. Live results will not be available.
The competition will be a dual meet against Appalachian State. It will be the Marshall program's first cross country dual meet since Friday, September 2, 2011 at Eastern Kentucky.
"I am extremely excited for this meet on Friday," assistant coach Caleb Bowen said. "Every race we get to go to this fall is a blessing and we have to make the most of this opportunity. It'll be super competitive, Appalachian State is a heck of a team, it wouldn't surprise me if they win the Sun Belt this year on both sides, so it'll be important for us to go out and run with them and battle it out."
Friday will be the Herd's second and final regular season meet of the 2020 season. It is the final tune-up ahead of the Conference USA Cross Country Championships set for Saturday, October 31 in Birmingham, Alabama.
"The goal for this meet is to sharpen our focus towards the conference meet in two weeks," Bowen said. "The amount of fitness we've gained in the last month has been incredible and I think this meet will help us get us race ready and perform well in Birmingham."
Last time out, October 3 at the Live in Lou Classic, sophomore Jacob Birurakis and redshirt junior Kyleigh Edwards paced the Thundering Herd men's and women's programs, respectively. Edwards ran the fastest women's 5K cross country time since 2016.
Seven men and seven women will compete for Marshall in Boone. Two men and five women will make their season debuts, as Tori Dotson, Kalei Jordan and Mackenzie Stanley will make their collegiate debut.
