Conference USA To Proceed With Cross Country, Herd Competes Saturday

Thundering Herd heads to Louisville

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall cross country will move forward with fall competition, as the Conference USA will be holding a fall conference championship for the sport, the school announced Friday.

The Thundering Herd will compete Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky to begin its season at the 19th annual Live in Lou Classic. The meet will take place at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, a site which has hosted three NCAA Division I National Championships since 2012.

"I'm am extremely excited that we have the opportunity to race this weekend and this fall," assistant coach Caleb Bowen said. "I just want to thank our administration for working with the conference to get everything set up and for providing the support to get us rolling. We are ready to compete and I hope we can take advantage of the opportunity we have been blessed with."

Additionally on the schedule for Marshall will be the Conference USA Cross Country Championships, which will be held Saturday, October 31 in Birmingham, Alabama, hosted by UAB.

The Herd will have nine athletes set to compete this Saturday in Louisville. The seven men competing will race at 9 a.m. in the college gold division race. Two women will race at 9:45 a.m., also competing in the college gold division classification.
