HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall cross country races Saturday at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships hosted by UAB at Veterans Park in Hoover, Alabama.
The meet begins at 10 a.m. ET and locally at 9 a.m. CT with the women's race, which the conference will hold as 6K race for the first time this season after previously being held as a 5K event. The men's race remains an 8K and will begin at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT. No spectators will be allowed.
"I'm not sure if we have ever been more excited for a conference championship meet," assistant coach Caleb Bowen said. "It just means so much more after the craziness this season has brought. This team knows that every race is a blessing and opportunity, and you never know when the next one will come. These guys and girls are ready and are excited to do something special this Saturday."
The meet comprises of 13 women's programs and 11 men's teams. While for Marshall it will be just the third meet of the season, for four opponents (FIU, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee, UTSA) it will be their second meets of the year. Additionally, it will be the first competition for Rice this season.
Marshall seeks to place at least one runner on the All-Conference USA team (top-21) for the fifth consecutive season. On the men's side, at least one runner has earned honors each of the past four seasons: Daniel Green (2016, 17), Nick Schmidt (2017, 18), Alex Minor (2018, 19).
The Herd women's side aims to add members to the record book for the first time since 2016 when Andrea Porter and Adriana Cook each earned All-C-USA recognition and for just the fourth time in school history (Marian Brooks, 2006).
As a team, the Thundering Herd men's squad finished fifth out of 11 schools (136 points) last year at the C-USA Championships hosted by WKU. The women's program finished ninth out of 13 schools (252 points).
Three men and three women make their Conference USA Championships debut Saturday. Sophomore Julia Muller will make her 2020 season-debut in Hoover, Alabama. The following athletes compete for Marshall at the C-USA Championships:
