GAINESVILLE, Fla.—Marshall baseball lost 10-0 to the No. 4 (D1Baseball.com poll)/No. 10 (USA Today Coaches poll) Florida Gators Saturday afternoon in front of 4,453 fans at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium.

Marshall dropped to 0-2 as the Gators improved to 2-0. With the win, Florida clinched the series.

Scoreless after three innings, the Gators scored 3 runs in the 4th, 2 runs in the 5th, and broke the contest open with a 5-spot in the 7th inning.

Walks hurt the Herd pitching staff Saturday, issuing 13 base on balls throughout the game. The team allowed just eight hits during the contest.

Sophomore starter Brady Choban (0-1) pitched strong, especially his first time through the batting order, allowing no hits through his first three innings pitched (2 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K).

Sophomore Luke Edwards, redshirt junior Peter Hutzal, and junior Jordon Billups mustered the lone hits off the Gators pitching staff led by starter and MLB prospect Jack Leftwich (1-0).

The loss was the program's first shutout defeat since April 30 of last season at No. 17 West Virginia in a 2-0 loss.

UP NEXT

The Herd and Gators will play the final game of the three-game set Sunday at 1 p.m.
