Women’s Golf Completes Grandover Fall Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Marshall women's golf team completed its final tournament of the 2021 fall season on Tuesday at the Grandover Fall Classic, hosted by UNC Greensboro.
The Thundering Herd finished in seventh place. Marshall now takes a break for the remainder of the fall semester and returns to action in the spring. The Herd's first competition in spring 2022 is the First Coast Classic in Jacksonville, Fla., on Feb. 14-15.
"Proud of the fight I saw this week from the team," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "The course wasn't the easiest, but I saw some good things this week. Also saw things we will work on in the off season as well."
Senior Jackie Schmidt led the Herd, tied for 14th, moving up seven places on the leaderboard in the final round. Schmidt sank one birdie in the round. Freshman Emily McLatchey improved her score by two strokes from the second round and bumped up six places on the leaderboard to also finish in the top 20, tied for 18th.
Graduate student Stormy Randazzo dropped her score again by two more strokes as she continued to show steady improvement through the event. Randazzo had two birdies on the back nine and moved up six places on the leaderboard. Junior Makena Rauch scored an eagle on par-5 No. 18, the second of the tournament for a Herd golfer as Randazzo had one on Monday. Senior Torren Kalaskey moved up nine places on the leaderboard after seeing a 4-stroke improvement in her score on Tuesday. Kalaskey had three birdies on Tuesday as she also saw steady improvement through the event.
No. 47 East Tennessee State won the team award finishing with a 30-stroke lead over South Dakota. The ETSU Bucs also grabbed the top prize and the runner-up for the players as Tereza Melecka jumped up to the top after scoring a 4-under 68 on Tuesday. Teammate Alex Crafton came in second.
