PINEHURST, N.C. – The Marshall men's golf team finished the second round of competition at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, Saturday on Pinehurst No. 8. Sophomores Tyler Jones and Christian Boyd are both in the top 20 on the leaderboard.
The Thundering Herd is in 12th place. Overall as a team, Marshall saw an improvement of eight strokes from Friday.
"Tyler (Jones) and Christian (Boyd) continue to play really good golf," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "Christian played great today and had three birdies in his round of 73. Tyler played well today and has put himself in a good position going into the final round."
Jones finished the day with a 3-over, 74, and is just four shots back of the leader. Boyd's three birdies helped him to the 2-over, 73, and also moved him up five spots on the leaderboard. Redshirt senior Will Straub dropped his score by four strokes and moved up four places. Redshirt senior Matt Hoffman improved by three strokes and moved up two places. Senior Brad Plaziak dropped his score by four shots and moved up five spots on the leaderboard. Junior Isaac Prine, who is playing as an individual, improved his score by three strokes from Friday.
Marshall tees off for the final round as one of the last groups, beginning at 9:39 a.m. Live scoring is provided by Golftstat.com.
The Dayton Flyers rose up three places to take the lead in the team category. Longwood is three strokes behind. On the player leaderboard, Logan Sabins of Butler has the lead by one shot over teammates Michael Cascino and Brandon Weaver of Longwood.
