Box Score
MIAMI, Fla. – Marshall women's soccer (2-4, 0-3 C-USA) fell on the road to the FIU Panthers, 3-1, in Miami on Monday night.
"We didn't compete tonight, especially in the first half and for periods in the second," Herd women's soccer head coach Michael Swan said after the loss. "FIU did a great job putting pressure on us all over the field and they deserved the win tonight. It's disappointing after we've played really well against some good teams in our conference. We've got give credit where credit is due. We were outplayed."
Marshall sophomore Morgan White and freshman Olivia Gandee fired the first two shots of the game, but both went wide in the fourth and ninth minutes, respectively.
Herd sophomore goalkeeper Courtney McVicker saved the first on target in the 15th minute, as sophomore Iselin Noevik put the Herd's first attempt on target as it was saved by FIU's Kiera Gibson.
McVicker saved the next two FIU attempts on target in the 18th and 20th minutes.
Panthers Sydney Amparo scored a pair of goals on back-to-back shots in the 21st and 24th minutes as the Herd trailed 2-0.
White then fired a shot on goal in the 31st minute, but Gibson was there for the save. Junior Lauren Hollis had the final attempt of the half and fired it off the crossbar as Marshall trailed 2-0 at the break.
McVicker recorded saves on FIU's first two shots of the second half in the 46th and 66th minutes.
Freshman Olivia Neidhardt fired a shot at the 67:14 mark that was saved by Gibson, but 33 seconds later Noevik scored her first goal of the season on White's team-high fourth assist to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.
McVicker came out with a couple of big saves in the 74th and 84th minutes to keep the FIU advantage at one goal, 2-1.
However, Amparo completed a hat trick with her third goal of the game in the 85th minute. McVicker made her eighth save of the contest in the 88th minute as Herd fell in Miami.
"We're gonna regroup and talk a lot about things we can do better, build our confidence back up and get back on the field with a solid performance against ODU," Swan said.
