Herd Athletes Win Two Events on Day One of Adidas Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Marshall track and field athletes earned two event wins Friday afternoon on the first day of competition of the Adidas Winthrop Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Facility.
For the second straight weekend, Safiyyah Mitchell and Taylor Robinson finished first and second in the 100 meter hurdles, respectively. Mitchell earned her fourth career win in the event with a time of 13.85.
In her first outdoor meet for Marshall, Maria Parra-Vargas took first place in the long jump in a field of 24 athletes. Her top jump was 5.42 meters (17 feet, 9.50 inches).
In a field of 48 athletes, Tori Dotson led the way for Marshall in the 800 meter run with a second place finish and a time of 2:15.03. Abby Herring (5th, 2:18.50) and Astoria Beckett (8th, 2:19.21) each earned top-10 placements.
Chloe Cahill finished second in the javelin with a top throw of 32.40m (106 ft. 3 in.), an improvement of nearly five feet from last week.
Danere'a White finished third in the 200m dash with a time of 25.20. Brandy Elysee (6th-25.73) and Janea Gardner (7th-25.74) also finished top-10 in the field featuring 60 sprinters.
Brooke Burns finished seventh in the hammer throw with a top toss of 49.67m (162 ft. 11 in.), a mark that is over four feet further than her top mark last week.
