Herd to begin round two Friday at 9:30 a.m. on front nine

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Marshall men's golf team finished round one Thursday at the Sea Palms Invitational.
The Thundering Herd is tied for 13th.
"It was an exciting day for us today as we returned to competitive golf for the first time in almost a year," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "Tyler Jones picked up where he left off last year and played really solid today. I was so happy to watch Christian Boyd battle back from a tough start to post a solid round in his first round as a team member. Bradley Plaziak was hitting the ball great today. Will Straub played solid and drove the ball well today. Noah Mullen was a little nervous to start the round today, he was also playing his first collegiate round with us, but he really kept grinding and was 1-under in his last four holes.
"I really enjoyed watching the guys compete today and I am looking forward to tomorrow."
Sophomore Tyler Jones leads the Herd with a 1-over, 72 and is tied for 27th. Jones was 1-over on the back nine, where the team started the day, and then finished the front nine at even par. Sophomore Christian Boyd rallied after a 4-over par start on the back nine to come back at 2-under on the front nine. Boyd tallied three birdies on the front side and four total for the day.
Senior Noah Mullens and redshirt senior Will Straub also improved on the front nine. Senior Brad Plaziak played better on the back nine, but still finished the day just four-over par.
Kennesaw State leads the team competition with a 9-under 275, and two strokes ahead of Jacksonville State. On the player leaderboard, four players are tied for the top spot with a 5-under 66.
