ST. SIMONS ISLAND – The Marshall men's golf team finished up the second round Friday at the Sea Palms Invitational, hosted by Western Carolina at the Sea Palms Resort.
Marshall is tied with Morehead State for 12th overall and will tee off Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. for the final round. Live scoring is provided through GolfStat.com.
"It was a really difficult day today at Sea Palms," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "The winds were swirling and blowing hard all day. Tyler Jones put together an incredible round, it was fun to watch! Christian Boyd got off to a great start and played the tough front nine even par. Will Straub played solid today and made a great birdie to finish his round. Noah Mullens played better today and hit an incredible 3-iron on the 17th hole to set up a birdie. Bradley Plaziak bounced back from a tough start and one-putted his final four holes including a birdie in the difficult par-3, 15th hole. I really think we got better today, the conditions were really challenging and the golf course was set up tough. This will help us moving forward. We are looking forward to the final round tomorrow."
Sophomore Tyler Jones scored an eagle on the fourth hole, finished the day with a 1-over 72, and moved up to a tie for 15th place. Redshirt senior Will Straub improved by two strokes from the day before and moved up the leaderboard.
Jacksonville State moved up to the top spot in the team competition and lead Western Carolina by one shot. Josh Edgar of Georgia State leads the player leaderboard after shooting a 2-under, 69. He leads Austin Schoonmaker of Wright State by three strokes.
