ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Marshall men's golf team completed its first event of the 2021 spring season Saturday at the Sea Palms Invitational.
The Thundering Herd finished in 14th place.
"Overall, not a bad tournament for our first tournament in about a year," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We were really disappointed with our finish today. We should have finished a little stronger. We had way too many penalty shots and 3-putts this week. We have got to get better at both if we expect to compete at a high level.
"It was good to see Tyler Jones get a top-20 finish. He played really well this week! Christian Boyd had a nice final round in tough conditions. We are looking forward to heading to the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Wednesday. It will be a quick turnaround but hopefully we can get some good work in before we leave."
Sophomore Tyler Jones was the top finisher for the Herd in 19th. Sophomore Christian Boyd improved by three strokes in the final round and moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard.
Jacksonville State won the team award, finishing three strokes ahead of Appalachian State. On the player leaderboard, A.J. Lintunen of Chattanooga brought home the award ending with a three-stroke lead over Dylan Lukes of Appalachian State.
