Herd back in action at Wright State Invitational April 18-19

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Marshall men's golf team finished the final round of the Mountaineer Invitational on Tuesday at the Pete Dye Golf Club.
The Thundering Herd came in 10th place.
"I was really happy with our seniors this week," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "They played really well. Matt (Hoffman), Cameron (Root) and Will (Straub) have worked hard all spring and it is good to see them playing good golf. We have a quick turnaround this week before we head to Wright State. Hopefully, we can get home and get some practice in, and recover from a tough week."
Redshirt senior Matt Hoffman improved yet again, dropping his score by two more shots to finish with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. He climbed up 13 more spots on the leaderboard to be the top finisher for the Herd, tied for 34th. Redshirt senior Will Straub jumped up eight spots after improving his score by four strokes in the third round. Senior Noah Mullens improved by one stroke and sophomore Tyler Jones dropped his score by five shots.
The Herd totaled 14 birdies in the final round and 32 over the whole event.
West Virginia captured its home tournament with an incredible team score of 7-under, 281, to move ahead of Southern Miss by 12 strokes. Mark Goetz of WVU stayed at the front of the pack with a 12-stroke lead over Brice Wilkinson of Sothern Miss.

Marshall returns to action at the Wright State Invitational, April 18-19, to finish the regular season. The Herd then travels to Texarkana, Ark., April 26-29, for the Conference USA Championships.
