Herd’s Meyer Tallies Career High 11 Saves In Loss Against Charlotte

4/6/2021 3:17:00 PM | Women's Soccer

The Herd will play its final match of the season against MTSU on Friday

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The Marshall women's soccer team dropped its final road match of the season to the Charlotte 49ers on Tuesday afternoon with a final score of 1-0.

The Herd fell to 3-6 (0-5 Conference USA) while the 49ers improved to 4-4 (4-1 C-USA).

"We put in a great performance today," Herd head coach Michael Swan said. "A performance that warranted something more of a positive result. Our character today was superb, we gave ourselves a great opportunity to win the game. We need a little bit of luck and a little bit of quality in key situations and we win this type of game. We're talking inches on the goal that was ruled out - rightly so but that's the stroke of luck you need in these close ones.

"We used 13 players today. They used 21. We can't ask anymore out of our players as far as effort, desire, togetherness and willingness to put their bodies on the line. I have no doubt that the results will come soon if we play at that level in the future. I'm very proud of our young group today. What we want more than anything is a win on Friday against MTSU."

Freshman goalkeeper Regan Meyer recorded a season and career high 11 saves in the match. Her previous best was five saves against WVU Tech.

Charlotte's own Julia Patrum scored the 49ers lone goal in the 79th minute.

In the first half, freshman Olivia Gandee had one shot in the 3rd minute and one shot on goal in the 11th minute for the Herd.

In the 24th minute, sophomore Morgan White recorded a shot on goal, but it was saved by CLT's Emma Wakeman.

Going into the 45th minute, freshman Olivia Neidhart tallied a shot on goal, but CLT's goalkeeper Wakeman made the save to end the first half.

Throughout the second half, the Herd saw more action offensively as Morgan White took a shot on goal towards low center in the 47th minute, but Wakeman recorded the save for the 49ers. In the 89th minute, sophomore Iselin Noevik took a shot for the Herd, but it was blocked. Freshman Abi Hugh followed behind and fired a shot on goal, but CLT's Wakeman made the save in low center to help secure the 49ers win.
