Box Score

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Herd women's soccer (0-2-0) fell in its first road contest of the season, 3-0, to the Kentucky Wildcats (1-0-1) on Sunday evening in Lexington.

"We showed a lot of growth tonight, especially in the first half," Marshall women's soccer head coach Michael Swan said after the match. "But in the second half, early on we lost our way a little bit both with the ball and defensively. We've got to recover tomorrow and then shift our focus to Ohio University and the next four games."

Both teams struggled offensively in the early going as in the first 20 minutes of play the lone two shots went wide of goal by the Wildcats.

Junior Marshall goalkeeper Courtney McVicker then saved a pair of UK attempts in the 22nd and 26th minutes to keep the score 0-0.

Senior forward Kat Gonzalez fired a shot at Kentucky goalkeeper Laura Nielsen, but the shot was saved in the 34th minute. McVicker followed up with her third save of the half five minutes later as it remained 0-0.

Freshman midfielder Kayla Denney recorded her first shot on target with 13 seconds left in the opening half, but it was saved as the two sides went into halftime tied 0-0.

McVicker opened the second half with saves in the 47th and 50th minutes.

UK tallied the first goal of the game in 53rd minute on a shot by Jordyn Rhodes. Rhodes scored her second goal of the contest in the 60th minute to put MU down 2-0.

Freshman defender Olivia Delikat placed a shot on goal in the 65th minute.

Rhodes found the back of the net of a rebound in the 67th minute for a hat trick as Marshall trailed 3-0.

Junior midfielder Iselin Noevik fired a ball on target that was saved by the UK goalkeeper in the 70th minute.

McVicker recorded three more saves in the second half before Mira Pastoft saw her first action with the Herd, making her first save in the final minute of the contest.
