Thundering Herd Cross Country Teams Place Seventh at Virginia Invite

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – Marshall's men's and women's cross country teams finished seventh, respectively, at the Virginia Invitational on Friday.
The meet was held at Panorama Farms in Earlysville and was hosted by the University of Virginia.
The women's race went five kilometers in length, while the men ran an 8K.
Marshall's women finished with 159 points and were led by Abby Herring's 15th-place finishing time of 18 minutes, 13 seconds. Sydney Smith was the Herd's second-highest running in 38th in 19:10. Rounding out the scoring was Kyleigh Edwards (44th, 19:19.8), Meagan Ward (48th, 19:21.9) and Julia Muller (61st, 20:17.1).
Also finishing for the Herd was Erykah Christopher (66th, 20:35.4), Madelyn Garrison (68th, 20:40.7), Cary Hively (70th, 20:49.9), Ciara Space (71st, 20:53.7), Kalei Jordan (20:55.5), Mackenzie Stanley (73rd, 20:57.5), Victoria Dotson (76th, 21:07.3), Emma Valle (78th, 21:49.6) and Alexandra Evans (82nd, 22:10.9).
Evan White was Marshall's highest finisher on the men's side with a 52nd-place finish in 27 minutes and 19.1 seconds. The Herd's other scorers were Paul Sepulveda (58th, 27:34.9), Jacob Birurakis (60th, 27:44.9), Brett Armbruster (62nd, 27:57.2) and Brendan Wood (64th, 28:07.3). That quintet made up the team's 211 points.
Also finishing were Kazuma Bowring (68th, 28:45.8), Jordan Thomas (71st, 29:51.4) and Ronnie Saunders (74th, 30:37.2).
"It was a tough day against some great competition," said Marshall's Assistant Coach for Cross Country Caleb Bowen. "We had some great performances on both sides and junior Abby Herring had a great day. Today will make us better and I'm excited for the next few meets before conference."
The Thundering Herd is back in action on Saturday, October 2 at the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
