Mullens tied for sixth to lead Herd

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Marshall men's golf team completed the EKU Intercollegiate tied for fifth out of 16 teams on Saturday at the University Club at Arlington. Fifth-year senior Noah Mullens led the team, finishing tied for sixth.
For Mullens, it was his first top 10 finish as a member of the Herd. He finished fourth overall in 2019 at the Anderson University Invitational while competing for Southern Wesleyan University.
"A very good start to the season for Herd Golf," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We played some solid golf but still have room to improve. Noah (Mullens) played great this week. It was awesome to see Brett (Montgomery) get to a top 20 finish in his first collegiate tournament. Tyler (Jones) played really well from tee to green. This should provide us with a great chance to take some momentum into the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational."
Mullens climbed up two more spots on the leaderboard in the final round after shooting a 2-under 68. He sank three birdies and had just one bogey. Sophomore Brett Montgomery finished Saturday with a 2-over 72, and finished tied for 17th in his first collegiate action. Junior Tyler Jones shot a 2-over 72 in the third round as well. Sophomore Andrew Wyss improved his score in the final round by two strokes and moved up five places on the leaderboard.
Western Carolina ran away with the team title, finishing 11 strokes ahead of Dayton. Jake Peacock of Western Carolina led the field as well ending the tournament with a 10-under 200. Peacock finished two shots ahead of Kyle Schmidt of Dayton.
