Marshall heads into final match day in control of its own destiny

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University women's soccer team visits Old Dominion on the final match day of the season. The Thundering Herd controls its own destiny with the hopes of making the Sun Belt Conference Tournament next week in Foley, Alabama.

PRE-MATCH NOTES

Entering the final day of the regular season, no final placements have been decided for next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Only 10 of the 14 teams make the tournament in Foley, Alabama. The conference will take the top 10 teams, regardless of division. For more information from next week's tournament, view HERE:

The Marshall Thundering Herd are right on the edge of qualification for the tournament, entering the final match day with the ninth-best record in the league. Listed below is the current standings, as well as the final match day schedule. Wins are equal to three points, a draw is equal to one point, a loss is equal to no points.

Georgia Southern at Georgia State 7:00 p.m. ET
App State at Texas State 8:00 p.m. ET

Marshall enters the final match day following their biggest win of the season, a 4-1 victory over Texas State. Senior midfielder Kat Gonzalez led the team with two goals, earning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week honors. 

Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth was a finalist for Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week. Wolgemuth is third in the Sun Belt Conference with 4.55 saves per game. 

Senior Morgan White returned to the goal scoring column in Sunday's win. The Cincinnati native is tied for second in the conference with nine goals. 

Marshall faces former C-USA conference opponent Old Dominion. The Thundering Herd are 5-2-1 all time against the Monarchs. 

ABOUT THE MONARCHS

Old Dominion clinched a spot at next week's tournament with a 1-0 win over Georgia State Sunday.

Senior Carla Morich is the team's leading scorer with five goals. Senior Megan Watts and junior Yulia Khrystiuk each lead the team with two assists. 

Redshirt-junior Erin Jones has seen the most action in goal for the Monarchs, with 32 saves and a 1.09 goals against average, which is fifth best in the league. 

Angie Hind leads the ODU women's soccer program. The Kilmarnock, Scotland native is in her ninth season as coach of the Monarchs.
