Wolgemuth makes two saves in the loss
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Two goals after the 80th minute sank the Marshall University women's soccer team Thursday night at Hoops Family Field. Goals from Emma Armstrong in the 80th minute and Elis Nemtsov in the 90th minute helped the Eagles from Georgia Southern secure a road victory. Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth made two saves in the loss.
Marshall outshot the visitors from Statesboro, 13-12 in the narrow defeat. The Herd's leading goal scorer Morgan White led the hosts with three shots on target. Marshall women's soccer head coach Michael Swan hopes for more chances converted to goals in what remains a tight Sun Belt East in the standings.
"We've got to regroup," Swan said. "We've got to look at film, this conference is so different with every team you play. We went down to [ULM] and we played really well and we played them off the park for a 0-0 tie. Tonight we played a team that is very direct, we are not very direct, we went sideways and didn't go forward with the ball, we didn't play with the feet. So we've got to regroup, watch the film and see what we've got to do better."
Despite the loss, Marshall moves to 6th in the Sun Belt East conference standings. Coach Swan's side is within four points of second place with five matches remaining in the regular season.
