Wolgemuth makes six saves in the loss
ATLANTA, Ga. – A 21st minute goal from Georgia State was enough to drop the Marshall women's soccer team, 1-0 Sunday afternoon. Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth made six saves in the contest.
Marshall finished the match with 10 shots, four of which were on goal.
"We've got to find a way to get on the score sheet again," Marshall head coach Michael Swan said. "The effort was there in the second half and we had some good opportunities. This is a tough conference and there's not much between teams."
The good chances in the second half included a Makai Laguines shot that nearly crossed the line for an equalizer. Leading goal scorer Morgan White nearly leveled the scoring minutes earlier, with her shot following a cross going just wide.
Wolgemuth made some crucial saves to keep the Herd within reach. Her most impressive save of the day came off a header from a corner kick. The freshman from Lincolnton, North Carolina made a diving save without letting the ball get free for a rebound.
The Thundering Herd are now 2-8-3, and 1-4-1 in Sun Belt play.
