Marshall Volleyball Falls in Four Sets on Saturday to JMU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University volleyball team (7-19, 1-13 Sun Belt) fell in four sets (22-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-17) to the James Madison Dukes (19-4, 13-1 Sun Belt) on Saturday at the Cam Henderson Center.
Sophomore Brynn Brown recorded 10th double-double of the season with 35 assists and 15 digs in the match. The setter also had four blocks.
With 20 kills in the contest, junior Regan Tinkle set a new career-high as graduate student Kaitlyn Gehler had a team-high 19 digs.
Senior Lydia Montague had 12 kills to go with a team-high six blocks.
JMU quickly rallied off the first three points of the contest. Down 4-1, Marshall used a 5-1 rally, including a kill by Tinkle along with a kill and solo block by Montague, to give the home team a 6-5 advantage. After a James Madison attacking error, MU held a 15-10 lead, its largest of the set. The Dukes kept it close, but the Herd held them at bay to take the opening set 25-22.
The Herd took an early 2-0 lead in the second set. The Dukes rallied to take a 4-3 advantage. The visitors then carried the its lead the rest of set as MU fell 25-12.
The two sides traded rallies until JMU took a 15-14 lead at the media timeout in the third set. Both squads continued the alternating rallies until the Dukes took six of the final seven points to take it 25-20.
JMU got on top early in the fourth set and took the lead to the end as it took the stanza 25-17 to seal the match.

Marshall is back in action on Thursday as it hosts Arkansas State at 6 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center.
