Thundering Herd Dominate to Open 2022-23 Track and Field Season

Two school records fall in season opening meet.
Results
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.— The Marshall University women's track and field team won the Marshall Opener Friday night at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Complex. The Herd scored 85 points and set two new school records in the victory over Morehead State.
Mikah Alleyne broke the 300 Meter school record set from 2017, also at the Marshall Opener by Brandy Elysee. Alleyne raced a 38.44, setting the new school benchmark.Â
Fifth year senior Macie Majoy has been at the center of Marshall Pole Vaults Records since joining the Herd as a freshman in 2018-19. The Cleveland native vaulted the new school record of 3.98 Meters on her third try to set the new precedent.Â
Head Track and Field Coach Jeff Small is pleased with the opening performances by the Herd.
"I think the team is really far ahead of where we were last year at this meet," Coach Small said. "We won every event, can't go wrong with that. Had several PR's and two school records-Macie Majoy in Pole Vault and Mikah Alleyne in the 300, so we're really excited."Â
Marshall, which has won every Marshall Opener contested, scored 85 points. Visiting Morehead State finished with 13 points.Â
In addition to the school records, several more meet and personal records fell, including the Weight Throw, where MaryAnn Adebayo's 19.12 Meter throw won the first event of the evening. Adebayo would also top the Shot Put, throwing 13.10 Meters for the victory.Â
Other victories for the Herd included Lara Check in the Long Jump, Tyra Thomas in the 60 Meter Hurdles and 200 Meter Dash, and Faith Gandy in the 100 Meter Dash.Â
A pair of cross country athletes from the fall carried their momentum into the distance events. Erykah Christpher topped the 1,000 Meter Run, with Meagan Ward following closely behind. The trio of Itzel Santos, Astoria Beckett, and Tori Dotson topped the 600 Meter Dash.
