Herd Stands Second After First Day of Marshall Invitational

Marshall wins weight throw, pole vault

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – 
The Thundering Herd's indoor track and field team picked up victories in the weight throw and pole vault on Friday at the Marshall Invitational. The meet is being held at the Jeff Small Track inside the Chris Cline Indoor Athletics Complex.
 
Dianna Goodman took the win in the pole vault with a school-record height of 3.97 meters, the fifth-best mark in Conference USA this season.
 
MaryAnn Adebayo and Rebecca Merritt went 1-2 to lead the Herd in the weight throw. Adebayo won the event with a toss of 18.56 meters, while Merritt's mark was a season-best 17.69 meters.
 
Marshall's distance medley relay team of Kylee Mastin, Astoria Beckett, Erykah Christopher and Meagan Ward took second in a time of 12:27.49, the league's fourth-fastest time.
 
Catelyn Hughes and Krista Perry tied for ninth at 1.44 meters to pace the team in the high jump.
 
Julia Muller ran the 5,000 meters in 19:35.06 to place ninth.
 
In the team standings, Marshall currently sits in second with 45 points. App State leads the way with 53 points, followed by West Virginia (32.5), Wright State (29.5), Morehead State (8), Northern Kentucky (8), Winthrop (8) and UNC Asheville (5)
 
The second day of competition starts at 10:30 a.m. and will close with the 4x400 relay at 3:15 p.m.
 
Saturday will also serve as Senior Day for the Thundering Herd. That ceremony is set to begin at 11:30 a.m.
