Herd Opens Conference USA Play in Miami against FIU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (10-7-1) heads south to Florida to take on the FIU Panthers (7-11) in a three-game series to open Conference USA play beginning on Friday.

The Herd fell 6-3 on Wednesday night on the road to the Ohio Bobcats.

Ryan Leitch has a team-high 24 RBI, second most in Conference USA, and is tied with Christian Lucio at seven doubles, tied for sixth in the conference. The sophomore is tied with Kyle Schaefer with a team-best four home runs. Schaefer has scored 19 runs in the team's 18 games, tied for sixth most in the league.

Luke Edwards has a .351 batting average and his 27 hits to lead the Green and White and rank tied for third most in C-USA.

Geordon Blanton leads the conference in stolen bases with nine.

Among eligible pitchers, Jeffrey Purnell leads Marshall with a 1.64 ERA, sicth best in the conference, and has a team-high 30 strikeouts, fourth most in the league

The Panthers enter the weekend 7-1 and are on a 10-game skid.

Alec Sanchez leads FIU with 17 RBI and four home runs on the year.

Friday's projected starter Patrick Pridgen is 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA. He has 42 strikeouts in 22.2 innings pitched this season.
