Herd Hosts Rice, Contest at WVU Rescheduled

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (11-9-1, 1-2 C-USA) is set to host the Rice Owls (6-16, 1-2 C-USA) for a three-game set this weekend.

Contest at WVU Rescheduled
The contest previously scheduled for Mar. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in Morgantown against the West Virginia Mountaineers has been rescheduled for Apr. 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Ryan Leitch has a team-high 25 RBI, tied for fifth in Conference USA, and is tied with Christian Lucio for the team lead in doubles with seven, tied for 10th in the conference.

Kyle Schaefer has launched a team-best five home runs this season for the Herd, tied for 11th in the league.

Luke Edwards has a .348 batting average and 32 hits to lead the Green and White. His 32 hits rank fourth in C-USA.

Geordon Blanton is 11-for-12 in stolen-base attempts this year to lead Conference USA.

Among eligible pitchers, Jeffrey Purnell leads Marshall with a 2.17 ERA, tied for sixth in the Conference, and a 3-0 record with the three wins ranking in a tie for fourth in C-USA. The senior righty also has 38 strikeouts to lead the squad and sit at third in the league.

Scouting Rice
The Owls dropped two out of three games in its first C-USA series of the season against UAB.

Nathan Becker leads his side with a .385 batting average in 18 games played this season, including 14 starts.

Guy Garibay, Jr. and Aaron Smigelski have each brought home 19 runs, with Smigelski blasting six homers.

Friday's projected starting pitcher Cooper Chandler is 0-4 with a 5.24 ERA. He has 29 strikeouts in 22.1 innings pitched.
