Final Results
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Marshall women's golf team improved its score by 20 strokes in the final round of the Golfweek Any Given Tuesday (AGT) Intercollegiate on Wednesday. Senior Jackie Schmidt scored a 1-under 71 to lead the way in the third round.
The Thundering Herd finished 13th overall. Fifth-year senior Stormy Randazzo finished tied for 11th out of 91 golfers to lead the Herd in the tournament.
"I'm really proud of Jackie (Schmidt) for shooting under par today," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "She's had a goal to do that before she graduates and today, she accomplished that. Stormy's (Randazzo) game is exactly where it needs to be as we get toward conference. I don't know if I've even seen her swing the club better before. I saw good things this week. We just need to improve on the second round each time."
Schmidt recovered from a rough start in the first round to continually drop her score throughout the event. The senior improved her score by seven shots from the first to the second round, and then dropped it another seven strokes on Wednesday. It is the first time in her collegiate career to score under par, however she tied her career-best score of 71 from the second round of the Bobby Nichols in 2019 which was par. Schmidt finished with three birdies on Wednesday and shot par or better on 16-of-18 holes.
Randazzo shot a 4-over 76 in the third round. She had one birdie and scored par or better on 16-of-18 holes as well. The Rowlett, Texas, native finished the week with seven total birdies and shot par or better on 45-of-54 total holes. It was Randazzo's best finish of the season and her total score of 223 was her best three-round score of the year as well.
Freshman Katie Potter lowered her score by seven strokes from the second to the third round. Junior Makena Rauch improved by 13 shots on Wednesday and senior Torren Kalaskey dropped her score by five strokes in the final round.
Coastal Carolina won the team award with a four-stroke advantage over Incarnate Word. The Cardinals had the best round of any team on Wednesday with a 5-under 283 to move close to the Chanticleers. Ellen Nicholas of Incarnate Word moved into a tie for the top spot with Tiffany Arafi of Coastal Carolina. Nicholas scored a 5-under 67 to jump up top as Arafi scored a 2-under 70.
