ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The second round on day one was suspended due to darkness at the Sea Palms Invitational on Friday. The Marshall men's golf team completed the first round as junior Tyler Jones led the way in fourth, one stroke behind the leaders.
The Thundering Herd ended the first round tied for eighth overall out of 19 teams. Marshall is one of 11 teams that has yet to finish the second round. Teams will pick up and complete the second round Saturday morning before continuing on to the third at the Sea Palms Resort. Live scoring is provided by GolfStat.com.
"We played really well today in really tough conditions," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "Tyler (Jones) played a great round of golf. He made two incredible birdies on 17 and 18 to finish his round."
In the first round, Jones recorded an eagle on the par-5, No. 4. He shot par or better on 17-of-18 holes and birdied the last two, including scoring a two on the par-3, No. 17. Jones finished with a 3-under 68.
Redshirt freshman Andrew Wyss finished the day with five birdies.
Dayton led the field at the end of the first round with a team score of an even par 284, and a three-stroke lead over Wright State. There is a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard with Thomas Giroux of Oakland, Blake Solomon of Dayton, and Brian Choe of Abilene Christian all finishing with a 4-under 67.
