HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Marshall Tennis (11-9) extended its win streak to four after defeating Middle Tennessee (9-11), 6-1, Friday evening at the 7827 Tennis Center.
Â
"It's our fourth in a row, and we're on a little roll here," Marshall head tennis coach John Mercer said. "We are getting later in the season with a little more experience and we're kind of figuring out what we have to do to win matches. We're understanding the game a little bit better to sequence our points and play to our strengths."
Â
Aisling McGrane and Gabrielle Clairotte were sharp from the outset as they claimed victory on court number three, 6-0. Madi Ballow and Sophia Hurrion wore down the pairing of Zani Barnard and Eloise Swarbrick on court number two, taking the set and winning the doubles' point, 6-3.
Â
Liz Stefancic struck first during the singles portion, defeating Muskan Gupta (6-3, 6-1) on court number two, and giving the Herd a 2-0 advantage. The Blue Raiders cut into the deficit with Zani Barnard notching a win on court number four, but Emma Vanderheyden dispatched Lee Barnard (7-6, 6-3) on court number one, to restore the dual lead back to two, 3-1. Ballow confirmed Marshall's victory after prevailing on court number three (6-0, 6-7, 6-4).
