Herd Welcomes Bulldogs to Kennedy Center

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (15-18-1, 4-8 C-USA) prepares to host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (23-10, 9-3 C-USA) for a weekend series. The series is set for a 2 p.m. start on Friday at the Kennedy Center.

Jordon Billups went 4-for-4 in the contest with four RBI and a pair of home runs.

Luke Edwards and Ryan Leitch each launched their eight homers of the season, tied for the team lead.

Edwards leads Marshall in batting average (.347), hits (50), runs scored (32) and total bases (83). The junior has reached base safely in 43 consecutive games. Edwards' 50 hits are tied for third most in Conference USA, while his .347 batting average places him in a tie for 10th in the conference.

Leitch has 12 doubles to lead the squad, tied for fifth in the league, and has a team-best 33 RBI this season, tied for seventh in C-USA.

Geordon Blanton is 11 for 12 in stolen-base attempts this season, currently tied for fifth most in the league.

Travis Sankovich has drawn 24 walks this season, tied for seventh most in C-USA.

Starting pitcher Jeffrey Purnell sits in a tie for fifth in Conference USA with 53 strikeouts. 13 of his strikeouts have been looking. The senior right-handed pitcher has a 4-2 record and a 3.64 ERA, the 10th best ERA in the conference, while the four wins sit in a tie for fourth.

The Bulldogs are 23-10 this season and have a 2-1 record against ranked teams this season.

Taylor Young has scored the most runs in the league this season (41) and has the fifth best batting average in the conference (.361).
The LA Tech pitching staff has a 3.87 ERA to go with 330 strikeouts, second best in Conference USA in both categories, and has issued just 99 walks, second fewest in the conference.
