Herd Heads to Columbus to Take on the Buckeyes

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (16-20-1) travels to Columbus, Ohio, to face the Ohio State Buckeyes (11-21) on Tuesday evening.

The Herd went 2-2 last week picking up a 10-3 win over the Ohio Bobcats on Tuesday and a 10-9 victory over the LA Tech Bulldogs on Friday.

Luke Edwards homered in all four games last week and now leads Marshall with 11. He has reached base in 46 consecutive games, has an 11-game hit streak and has hit long balls in the last five contests.

He leads the team with a .355 batting average, 55 hits and 36 runs scored. All of the junior's team-leading stats rank in the top-10 in Conference USA with the 55 hits ranking second in the league.

Ryan Leitch has a team-best 13 doubles, which sit in a tie for second in C-USA, with 37 RBI, seventh most in the conference.

Kyle Schaefer has been issued 25 free passes this to lead Marshall and sit in the top 10 in the league.

Jeffrey Purnell's 54 strikeouts are tied for sixth in Conference USA.

Scouting Ohio State
The Buckeyes are on a four-game skid heading into the contest after falling to Dayton and getting swept by Maryland over the weekend.

Marcus Ernst leads Ohio State with a .361 batting average and 43 hits. His teammate Zach Dezenzo has a team best nine homers and 28 RBI.
