Herd to Play Host to 49ers

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (19-21-1, 8-10 C-USA) returns home to the Kennedy Center for a three-game set against the Charlotte 49ers (25-16, 8-10 C-USA) beginning on Friday.

Cancer Awareness Weekend
This weekend is Cancer Awareness Weekend for Marshall baseball. All players and staff will wear hats with a ribbon representing the type of cancer that has affected their lives.

Have You Heard
The Herd is coming off a three-game sweep of the WKU Hilltoppers last weekend in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Jeffrey Purnell started Friday's contest going 7.0 innings, giving up just one run on six hits and three walks. The senior struck out five Hilltoppers in his fifth victory of the season.

Ryan Capuano earned his first save of the season in Friday's victory.

Patrick Copen won his second game of the season in his start on Saturday. The sophomore righty threw six-shutout innings and recorded eight strikeouts as he gave up just one hit and three walks.

Zac Addkison struck out six in six innings of work en route to his first win of the season on Sunday.

Luke Edwards leads the team with a .343 batting average, 59 hits, 39 runs scored, 38 RBI and 11 homers. The junior's 59 hits sit in a tie for third most in Conference USA. He has reached base in 49 consecutive games.

Ryan Leitch has a team-best 14 doubles, ranking in a tie for fourth in the league.

Kyle Schaefer has been issued 28 free passes this to lead Marshall and rank eighth in the conference.

Purnell's 59 strikeouts are sixth most in C-USA.

Scouting Charlotte
The Knights enter Friday on a six-game winning streak.

Nate Furman has the second-best batting average in the conference at .377 and is tied for third with 46 runs scored.

Spencer Giesting has a team-leading 68 strikeouts this season, fifth most in Conference USA.
