KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Marshall men's golf team had a great third round on Sunday at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate. The Thundering Herd lowered its team score by 14 strokes from the second round.

Marshall finished 15th overall.

"Great day today," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "Tyler (Jones) played great and it was good to see Noah (Mullens) finish under par today. We just have to get off to a better start. We put ourselves too far behind after the first day. Today was much better and we need to continue to build off this round."

As a team, the Herd finished ahead of seven other teams in the field with its 3-under 281. Marshall's players combined for 21 total birdies on Sunday.

Junior Tyler Jones shot a 3-under 68 and recorded five birdies. He shot par or better on 16-of-18 holes and moved up 16 places on the leaderboard. Jones continued to improve throughout the event dropping his score by four strokes in the second round and then a two-stroke improvement in the third round. He tallied nine total birdies over the three rounds.

Fifth-year senior Noah Mullens finished the third round with a 1-under 70. He started the day with a birdie on No. 10, and then recorded three more on the front nine. Mullens shot par or better on 16-of-18 holes, lowered his score by five strokes from the second round, and moved up 14 spots on the leaderboard. Mullens finished the weekend with eight total birdies.

Freshman Ryan Bilby moved up 10 places after scoring an even par 71 on Sunday. Bilby also saw steady improvement, lowering his score by four strokes in the second round and then another two strokes better in the third. He birdied his last two holes, Nos. 8 and 9, to get to back par. Bilby recorded four birdies in the round and nine total.

Redshirt freshman Joseph Kalaskey shot a 1-over 72 and moved up the leaderboard as well, improving his score by six strokes from the second round. Redshirt freshman Brett Montgomery dropped his score by four strokes in the third round, tallied four birdies, and slid up four spots. Senior Kyle Mitchell tallied two birdies on Sunday.

No. 27 Charlotte held off No. 21 Ole Miss by one stroke to take the team award. Jackson Suber of Ole Miss moved up two spots on Sunday to take home first place by one shot over Dongjin Park of Charlotte.
