Herd to Host Blue Raiders for Three-Game Series

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (13-16-1, 3-6 C-USA) is set to host the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (13-14, 5-4) at the Kennedy Center for a three-game series beginning Friday.

Luke Edwards leads Marshall in batting average (.344), hits (44) and slugging percentage (.531). The junior has reached base safely in 39 consecutive games. Edwards' 44 hits are tied for second most in Conference USA, while his .344 batting average places him 12th in the conference.

Ryan Leitch has nine doubles to lead the squad and has a team-best 28 RBI this season, tied for 11th in C-USA.

Kyle Schaefer is tied with Edwards at six homers this season as Leitch has five.

Geordon Blanton is 11 for 12 in stolen-base attempts this season, currently tied for fourth most in the league.

Probable starter Jeffrey Purnell sits in fourth in Conference USA with 52 strikeouts. 13 of his strikeouts have been looking. The senior right-handed pitcher has a 3-2 record and a 2.63 ERA, the sixth best ERA in the conference.

Scouting Middle Tennessee
The Blue Raiders took two out of three from the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers last weekend.

Fausto Lopez leads his side with 14 extra-base hits and six homers while bringing home 13 runs this season. He's tied with JT Mabry with a team-high eight doubles.

Zach Kennan is Friday's projected starter for MT. In seven starts this season, he is 3-2 with a 4.23 ERA and 37 strikeouts.
