Team records five second-place finishes

RESULTS

TAMPA, Fla.
– Abby Herring posted a win in the 1500 meters to lead the Thundering Herd's track and field team at the South Florida Invitational in Tampa on Saturday. Herring finished the race in a school-record 4:30.55, topping her mark from last year by more than two seconds (4:32.84).
                                                
Herring's time is also the second-fastest in Conference USA this season.
 
MaryAnn Adebayo placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 56.49 meters on her second attempt, while Rebecca Merritt also posted a second-place finish in the discus (47.14 meters) on her fourth throw. Merritt's lifetime-best mark is currently third in the league. Adebayo's is fourth.
 
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Mikah Alleyne, Erica Murphy, Ashonti Warner and Jillian King took second in 3:47.96, the conference's second-fastest time.
 
Warner was second in the 400 hurdles in 59.44 seconds. Sydney Smith notched a second-place finish in the steeplechase (11:08.65), also the second-fastest time in C-USA and second-fastest ever in Thundering Herd history.
 
Chloe Cahill got on the podium in the javelin with a third-place mark of 34.07 meters, a toss that came on her sixth and final throw.
 
Dianna Goodman recorded a fourth-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 3.55 meters, while Merritt (13.59 meters) also took fourth in the shot put on her fourth attempt.
 
Alleyne was fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.33 seconds, as was Kalei Jordan in the 5000 meters (18:36.87).
 
The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Tyra Thomas, Marlee Porter, Myrka Cadet and Alleyne finished sixth with a time of 48.24 seconds. Warner also went sixth in the 100 hurdles with a lifetime-best time of 13.92 seconds, bettering the league's third-fastest time by two one-hundredths.
 
Murphy led the Thundering Herd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.13.
 
Maria Parra took 11th in the long jump with a mark of 5.52 meters on her third attempt.
 
Porter posted a 13th-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 58.07 seconds.
 
The team is back in action Saturday at the James Madison Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va.
