SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Marshall's track and field team earned seven team points and qualified five for finals on the third day of competition at the 2022 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet is being held at the Park West Athletics Complex in San Antonio.
The Thundering Herd currently sits sixth in the team standings with 22 points.
Marshall received five points when Rebecca Merritt took fourth in the discus with a throw of 47.77 meters.
Sydney Smith scored two more when she posted a seventh-place finish in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase in 11:15.28.
Ashonti Warner qualified for two of Sunday's finals when she won heats in the 100 Hurdles (13.52 seconds) and 400 Hurdles (59.20 seconds), respectively. Tyra Thomas (13.70) also placed third in the second heat of the 100 hurdles and she too will advance to Sunday's final.
Mikah Alleyne also won her heat to advance to Sunday's 400-meter final, clocking in at 54.82 seconds.
Abby Herring (4:40.73) placed second in her heat in the preliminary round of the 1500 meters and will advance as well.
Sunday's field action gets underway with the javelin competition at 2 p.m. ET/1 CT, while the track heats up at 7:05 p.m. ET/6:05 CT with the 4 x 100 meter relay.
