Herd Falls in Season Finale on Senior Day to FAU

Leitch hits 12th homer of the season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (20-34-1, 9-21 C-USA) fell in its season finale to the Florida Atlantic Owls (34-21, 19-11 C-USA), 11-1, at the Kennedy Center on Saturday.

The Herd honored Jordon Billups, Geordon Blanton, Louis Davenport and Jeffrey Purnell in its pregame Senior Day ceremony before the contest.

FAU's Nolan Schanuel brought in the first run of the game on an RBI-single in the top of the first. However, after Herd starting pitcher Zac Addkison threw a scoreless top of the second, Ryan Leitch launched a solo homer to left center to tie the game, 1-1, to lead off the bottom of the second.

The Owls then struck for four runs in the top of the third which included a two-run homer by Schanuel and a solo home run by Jackson Ross as the Herd trailed 5-1.

Relief pitcher Cole Agemy came on for Addkison to begin the fourth. The righty hurled three consecutive scoreless frames and gave up just one hit to keep the deficit at 5-1 through six innings.

FAU scored six runs in the final three innings of action as Marshall fell in the contest.

Luke Edwards went 1-for-4 in the contest as he finished with a Conference USA best 84 hits this season. The junior's hit total is the second most in program history behind David Colangelo's program best 85 set in 2002.
