HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University volleyball team (6-8) was defeated in four sets (22-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-15) by the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (10-6) on Tuesday night in the Cam Henderson Center.

Graduate student Macy McElhaney had a season-high 20 kills and 15 digs for a double-double in the contest. Freshman Bella Thompson collected a double-double with a match-high 24 assists and 15 digs as sophomore Alayna Corwin recorded a double-double with 19 assists and 14 digs.

Junior Regan Tinkle had a .407 hitting percentage on 14 kills and fifth year senior Kaitlyn Gehler had a match-high 22 digs.

The Herd trailed 5-2 early in the first set. However, it went on 5-0 rally with a pair of kills by Macy McElhaney, a kill by junior Jazminn Parrish and a pair of block assists by McElhaney and Montague to take a 13-11 lead and force an EKU timeout. Marshall held on to the lead the rest of the way, taking the set 25-21.

A pair of Montague kills in the second set concluded a 7-0 Herd rally, giving the home side a 16-12 lead. The Colonels made a comeback in the set and tied it 21-21. After the two squads traded a few points, EKU took the set 26-24 by collecting the final two points of the set.

Marshall trailed 19-11 in the middle of the third frame. Despite the eight-point deficit, MU used an 8-0 rally to the match after redshirt junior Olivia Fogo and Montague combined for a block, followed by a block by Montague and Parrish, to tie the set, 19-19. The Colonels held off the Herd comeback and took the stanza 25-22.

EKU took the first five points of the fourth set and held the lead to take the set, 25-15, and the match.

Marshall welcomes Georgia State Thursday and Friday for its first two Sun Belt Conference home matches. Thursday's contest begins at 6 p.m. with a 2 p.m. start on Friday.
