Herd Volleyball Drops SBC Home Opener to Georgia State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University volleyball team (6-9, 0-3 Sun Belt) fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 28-26) in its Sun Belt Conference home opener to the Georgia State Panthers (5-10, 1-2 Sun Belt) on Thursday night in the Cam Henderson Center.

Sophomore Brynn Brown recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 27 assists and 10 digs.

Junior Regan Tinkle had a match-high 16 kills with .308 hitting percentage.

The first set saw the two squads have a tug-of-war for the lead. It had five lead changes and saw the score tied 11 times. With the score tied 18-18, the Panthers took five of the next seven points to take a 23-20 lead. However, the Herd took advantage of three GSU errors to tie the set 23-23, but Georgia State took the final two points of the set to take the opening frame 25-23.

Neither team led by more than three points in the second set. The Panthers used a 5-0 rally to close out the second set 25-23.

Georgia State overcame a 14-10 deficit in the middle set and closed out the match with a 28-26 triumph in the third set.
