School Records Continue to Fall for Herd T&F on First Day at Louisville

Day Two Begins Saturday at 10 a.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Marshall track and field opened competition at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville Friday. The Herd set two more school records with Sydney Smith in the 5K and Macie Majoy in the Pole Vault.
Smith, who set the school record in the 3K last week at Liberty, raced a 17:22.37 in the 5K, finishing sixth in a competitive race.
"Breaking the record is honestly more than I could have asked for," Smith said. "I didn't want to admit that I wanted to go for the record, but considering it's my last indoor season, it had to be now or never! I'm really glad I just buckled down and did it."
Majoy raised the bar for her own indoor school record in the Pole Vault. The senior from Cleveland vaulted 4.03 meters to win the open event.
Other key finishes on Friday included Tyra Thomas qualifying for the 60 meter hurdles finals, finishing sixth in the prelims, before placing fourth in the finals. Her time of 8.42 was an improvement from last week's time at Liberty.
Krista Perry had a positive start to the pentathlon, finishing fifth in the 60 meter hurdles, and fourth in the 800.
