The Herd fell to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (17-7, 12-0 Sun Belt) in three sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-23).
"We have pieces that we rely on heavily that just weren't there," Herd volleyball head coach Ari Aganus said after the match. "Lydia had a great game. I thought Brynn and Essence did a great job. We were able to push off in the middle when our passing was there. But the full package wasn't there today."
Montague had a match-high 14 kills with Peyton Neal registering a match-high 15 digs. Brynn Brown led Marshall with 21 assists.
The Chants took the opening set wire-to-wire to open the match, 25-14.
The Herd battled in the second and third sets. The second set saw five lead changes and the score tied 13 times as third featured the score tied eight times with three lead changes. The home side fell just short in the last two sets 25-20 and 25-23, respectively, as CCU took the match.
