Herring Finishes Runner-Up for Marshall Cross Country at Sun Belt Championships

FOLEY, Ala.- The Marshall cross country teams raced at the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Championships Saturday morning in Foley, Alabama. The Marshall women finished third on the heels of senior Abby Herring's school-record setting 16:49 5K performance.
The third place finish is the highest for the Marshall women at a conference championship race since 1989.
Herring - the Parkersburg native - finished runner-up in the women's race, earning First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors. Herring joins Tina Maynard as the only four-time Marshall women's cross country All-Conference honoree.
Junior Kylee Mastin finished 10th, earning her Second All-Conference honors in as many years with the Herd.
The men saw senior Evan White earn All-Conference honors with his seventh place finish, earning Second Team awards. For White, it was his second consecutive All-Conference performance.
The Herd men finished sixth in the 8K Saturday.
"What a day! I thought every athlete ran super tough," Head Coach Caleb Bowen said. "It was hot and humid but we ran our hearts out. Really proud of this squad. "
