Strong Final Day Leads Herd Women’s Golf to 3rd At Butler Fall Invitational

Kochan earns T-4; McIlvaine earns T-6; team places four in top-20
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Marshall's Women's Golf team posted the best final round score of any program in the 16-team field to earn a third-place finish at the Butler Fall Invitational at Highland Country Club in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Tuesday.
The final round helped Marshall produce four players in the top-20 at the end of the event, led by a T-4 finish for Olivia Kochan and a T-6 finish for Kasey McIlvaine. Emily McLatchey also was T-14 while Abbey Bull was T-18.
"I'm extremely proud of our team this week," Marshall Women's Golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "What an incredible start to our season. We had the best round of the day and it was so fun to see them play great!"
On a day when there were only three rounds under par at Highland Country Club, Marshall's contingent limited damage and maintained consistency as a group. McLatchey finished with a 1-over 71 while three others – Kochan, McIlvaine and Bull – each finished at 2-over 72.
McLatchey finished with three birdies on the day, including her final one on the par-4 No. 2 to propel her to the top finish of her week.
Bull also had three birdies on the day, including consecutive birdies on Nos. 14 and 15, that helped vault her into the top-20.
Kochan and McIlvaine each came into the day cemented in the top-10 and never wavered, finishing with two birdies each en route to a pair of 72s that kept both of them within the top-6 at event's end.
For Marshall, it is the team's second top-3 finish in as many tournaments after a second-place finish at the Jennifer Duke Invitational to start the fall season.
Marshall Women's Golf heads back out on the road this weekend in preparation for the UNCG Fall Invitational, which is scheduled for Oct. 9-10 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
